Michael Bolden, Lead Strategist
Michael Bolden is the Lead Strategist for Waterside Consulting. He has over 10 years work experience in strategic development and has practiced Blue Ocean Strategy since its introduction in 2005. In recent work, he led a team which developed a $200 million business utilizing Blue Ocean Strategy for a "big box" retailer. Michael has worked for Accenture and CSC performing strategy and metrics development. He was an engineer for the 3M Company and a process consultant for Ernst & Young. Michael specializes in Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS), marketspace development, market due diligence, competitive analysis, and online tactical development. He has developed BOS 2.0 which is the next generation BOS focused around "owning marketspace" and dominating a given market.
Michael lives within the city of Chicago, and is an avid White Sox fan. He enjoys reading non-fiction and cooking seafood. He has published "Managing by Metrics," "Localization and Marketspaces," and the white paper "How to Use Blue Ocean Strategy to Grow Profits in Your Company’s Markets." He holds a BS from Stanford University in Industrial Engineering. Michael is also a graduate of The University of Chicago MBA Program where he earned four majors: Marketing, Policy (Strategy), Finance and Production Management. At The University of Chicago, he was a Dean's List Honor Student, and won many awards including the Deloitte Consulting Challenge and the Dean's Challenge Award.
